Why Are Schools Closed in the Western Cape?

Heavy rainfall, severe storm warnings, and dangerous travel conditions forced education officials to temporarily close selected schools in affected districts. Areas including Worcester, Ceres, Tulbagh, Rawsonville, and the Hex River Valley are among the hardest hit by the bad weather.

Important Safety Reminder for Western Cape Residents

The severe weather affecting the Western Cape may continue to create dangerous conditions in some regions. Even if your child’s school is open, parents should use their own judgment when road conditions are unsafe.

The provincial education department said closures will only happen where absolutely necessary, and any additional school shutdowns will be handled individually depending on weather conditions and local safety assessments.
